Apostille

Divorce Decree Apostille

Apostille certification of certified divorce decrees for international use — remarriage abroad, immigration, name changes, and dual citizenship. Pennsylvania and all 50 states.

Important: Divorce decrees must be certified copies from the Prothonotary with a raised seal.

Pennsylvania (and most US states) will only apostille a divorce decree that has been issued as a certified copy by the Prothonotary or Clerk of Courts of the county where the divorce was granted, bearing the court’s embossed/raised seal. We can order the certified copy on your behalf if needed.

Document Requirements

What we need to apostille your divorce decree.

Certified copy from the Prothonotary

We can only apostille a certified copy issued by the Prothonotary (or Clerk of Courts) of the county where the divorce was granted. Photocopies, downloaded PDFs, and party-held originals are not accepted.

Raised (embossed) seal required

The certified copy must carry the court's raised seal and the Prothonotary's original signature. Flat-printed seals or scanned copies will be rejected by the Department of State.

Recent issuance preferred

Many consulates require the certified copy to be issued within the last 6 months. We recommend ordering a fresh certified copy if yours is older.

Out-of-state decrees

Decrees from other states are also accepted — they must be certified by the issuing county/clerk and apostilled by that state's Secretary of State. We coordinate all 50 states.
