The Commonwealth only apostilles a certified copy of the divorce decree issued by the Prothonotary — or the Clerk of the Orphans’ Court in counties where that office holds the record.
The certified copy must carry the court’s raised or embossed seal together with the original certifying signature. Flat-printed seals cannot be authenticated.
Downloaded PDFs, attorney file copies, scans and photocopies are rejected. Order a fresh certified copy from the county if you only hold a copy.
Many consulates ask for a certified copy issued within the last six months. If yours is older, request a new certified copy before filing.
